| Exceptionally painful in the morning or after long periods of rest, plantar fasciitis is caused by the stretching, straining and in some cases even tearing of the plantar fascia - a fibrous muscle that stretches from the metatarsal arch to the calcaneus. A sore, painful heel results when the plantar fascia is overstrained, due to flattening of the arches. This continuous stretching at the heel causes chronic heel pain. |
